This is still the PR Maria, named after Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaevna of Russia, the third daughter of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, who was murdered along with her family following the abdication of her father, the erstwhile Tsar Nicholas. I find Russian history fascinatingly replete with tragedy, a quality that has carried on to modern Russia.
This is mostly going to be a picture entry. Pre Giorgia and the German Erasmus lot from the U of Helsinki, by the way. I wandered around a lot on the sundeck, watched the port pull away from the ship - or the other way round. It was not a particularly large ship, but was certainly adequate and functional - fully functional, in fact. The view of the West Terminal was phenomenal, naturally. I tried to mope a bit more about, well, You-Know-Who - but somehow couldn't bring myself to feel gloomy, as my spirits were too high, keenly anticipating Sankt-Peterburg, Petrograd, Leningrad, erstwhile capital of imperial Russia.
The next entry will be a short blurb on some of the food the SPB offered, so I'll leave you here with the photos.
I was particularly intrigued/amused by this as I'd seen the real Cutty Sark on numerous occasions. |
Good ole Cutty Sark |
I was tempted on multiple occasions by this restaurant.. there's nothing quite like a hearty seafood restaurant aboard a cruiser ship with no WiFi to help you while away the time |
Colouring in this photo remains resolutely off despite my best attempts, but I did try |
