Phone photos of continental #5, part IX - Trakai food, lots of amazing potato pancakes and Lithuanian booze

For these potato pancakes alone, I would return to Lithuania

Trakai food.

The best potato pancakes under the sun.

Along with the best beef goulash under the sun....
And of course Trakai castle.

Back to Vilnius, and boooooze galore.

Lithuania, part IV - Trakai (iii) Trakai Island Castle (Trakų salos pilis) and the lake, the post office, and the bus station

More pretty castle and lakes, and beautiful serenity. Lithuania's answer to the Lady of the Lake. I could readily believe Nimue here, and Sir Bedivere throwing Excalibur into this lake.

Words that I haven't uttered in a long time.

Oh, how I do yearn for you, Lithuania.

The terminal for Vilnius-bound buses

Trakai post office

More post office!

Lithuanian books

The bus terminal

And the bus that would take us back to Vilnius

Castle, one last time

Lithuania, part III - Trakai (ii), Trakai Island Castle (Trakų salos pilis)

This was one of my favourite medieval castles in Europe. Straight out of the Crusades it was. Here's what wikipedia has to say about it:

Trakai Island Castle (Lithuanian: Trakų salos pilis) is an island castle located in Trakai, Lithuania on an island in Lake Galvė. The construction of the stone castle was begun in the 14th century by Kęstutis, and around 1409 major works were completed by his son Vytautas the Great, who died in this castle in 1430. Trakai was one of the main centres of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the castle held great strategic importance. (source)

And my word it was lovely, and everything one could ever want in a castle. In the middle of a lake, check. Orange with rounded turrets, check. In slight disrepair to add authenticity, check. In the middle of nowhere, check.

This is an awesome picture entry, by the way, if I do say so myself. Enjoy.
